Do you know the details and purpose for the CVW process? CVW is a method designed to allocate configured vehicles to dealers to address production needs, plant requirements, start-up fills, and one-off promotional or production scenarios. CVW has unique allocation methodologies tailored to each situation, all detailed on the dedicated CVW portal. You can access the portal under Useful Links in WBDO's dashboard.
How Configured Vehicle Wholesale (CVW) Works
Notification: Regional Field teams alert dealerships about CVW allocations and deadlines.
Portal Access: Dealers log into the CVW portal during the offering window to view allocated VINs.
Acceptance: Dealers accept or reject units, confirm orders, and receive email summaries.
Rebilling: Accepted units are rebilled to the dealership after the offering period ends.
WBDO: A few days after acceptance, units will show up in WBDO as scheduled.
Strategies For Dealers
This is a separate wholesale where you need to make decisions based on what Ford is offering and your inventory needs. Calculate your run rate and availability to decide if you need more allocation or not. If you don't need more allocation, it would be wise to accept the pieces only if they are unique or highly desirable in your market.
Example 1 - There was a month where Ford limited the number of Bronco Sport Big Bends dealers could take, but then offered some through CVW. If you needed more Big Bends, but were overstocked on Bronco Sports, you may want to consider accepting them.
Example 2 - Ford offered Maverick Tremors one month. In some markets, Maverick Tremors do great and in other markets they struggle. Knowing your market’s data will help you make smarter inventory decisions.
Since dealers can amend scheduled units (as discussed in our previous article), there may be opportunities to make changes to CVW units, depending on the build dates and specific constraints. For instance, units tied to a particular appearance package or other production factors might limit modifications. Understanding these parameters ensures dealers can explore adjustments to better align with customer needs or inventory goals. Check WBDO daily to track orders, as earlier changes increase the likelihood of success.
Summary
Timing and purpose for CVW are optimized to address production needs, plant requirements, start-up fills, and one-off promotional or production scenarios. Knowing your allocation needs is crucial for you to be able to navigate CVW. Understanding what changes can and cannot be made after units show up within WBDO will help you gauge whether you want to accept the units or deny them.
